Find a large jam jar and place a big handful of cotton wool balls inside it.
Put 1 cm of water in the bottom of the jar to keep the cotton wool damp.
Place some beans on top of the wool and around the side of the glass jar. Try chick peas, runner beans and broad beans - two of each.
Cover the jar with some cloth and an elastic band and keep in a bright place out of direct sunlight.
Keep a beady eye on your seeds and you will soon see them germinate. Try and guess how many days this will take. Watch the progress of your seeds as they stem and the roots grow.
