Edible Playgrounds Pizza

The good thing about pizza is that you can top it with many things you’ve grown in your Edible Playground.

It’s best if the adults make the pizza dough and sauce first, as dough takes between 30 and 90 minutes to rise properly. Click here for a video that shows how to make dough and sauce.

Ingredients
A fist-sized piece of dough for each child.
Pizza sauce

Bowls of toppingsyou can harvest any of these from your Edible Playground
Tomato slices
Pepper slices
Slivers of courgette – brush with olive oil before putting on the pizza
Slices of onion
Basil leaves
Peas or beans – not the usual topping, but yummy on a pizza if they are cooked first too
Cheese – either grated hard cheese or slices of mozzarella
And you could also have:
Flaked tuna
Ham
Black olives
Capers

01Preheat the oven to 230˚C/Gas Mark 8.
02On a floured surface, roll the dough into a circle (use a jam jar if you don't have a rolling pin). You can make it thick one or thin one depending on how you like your pizza base.
03Put the pizza base on a warmed baking tray.
04Then put a tablespoon of sauce in the middle of the dough and spread it out, but not right to the edge.
05Spread your toppings evenly over the pizza.
06Bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 220˚C, then turn the temperature down to 200˚C/Gas Mark 6 for another 5-10 minutes. Thick pizzas will need longer in the oven than thin ones.
07Serve with some freshly picked salad.
