2008

In June you can start to enjoy food that fills you up! New potatoes, known as ‘early’ varieties, will usually be ready when the plants are flowering.
Plus you’ll have plenty of French beans, broad beans, peas and salad leaves to munch and crunch. Home-grown pudding is also taken care of in June… it’s the month of strawberries!

You can sow these seeds straight into the ground now it’s warm:
June is also the time to plant out things that you’ve grown in a greenhouse or polytunnel:

Your tomato plants will be quite tall and leafy now – there should soon be some lovely, fruity-scented yellow flowers too. These tall tomatoes, as well as cucumbers, will need supporting with a cane. Make sure the cane is secure, then gently pull the plant stem to the cane with a zip tie or some twine.
