Sow in the ground
Garlic – buy the right variety for sowing now from a garden centre
Spinach
Oriental salads

Onions – choose an over-wintering variety
Lettuce – winter variety. May need cloche protection

Container growing
Potatoes – believe it or not, you can grow new potatoes for Christmas dinner. Sow chitted (see above) potatoes in a tub, and make sure the tub is protected if frost is forecast

Harvest
Potatoes (main crop) – cut off the foliage, wait 10 days and lift the roots. These potatoes can be stored
Tomatoes – before the first frost. Harvest even green tomatoes and ripen in a warm place in a sealed paper bag

French beans
Courgettes
Cucumbers
