Parsnips – but only if the weather is warm
Peas – if your school is in a mild area, you could sow directly in to the ground but choose a round variety (such as Feltham First or Meteor) and cover the seedlings with cloches
Plant in the ground
Rhubarb - buy sets and plant 3 feet apart and you’ll be pulling sticks from March right through until the middle of the summer
Container Growing
Buy seed new potatoes and chit (see below)
Jobs
Prepare your beds for planting – dig them over and remove weeds
Potatoes – buy seed potatoes and leave them to chit in a cool light place. Put them in an egg box and leave them in a cool dark place to develop sprouts. Rub off most of the sprouts and then put the potatoes in a light place before planting in a few weeks. Chitting isn’t strictly necessary buthelps produce healthy plants.
